Attracting Dunnocks
Dunnock, Hedge Sparrow, Hedge Accentor - we’re as confused as you are about what to call this sweet little brown bird! For argument's sake let's stick to Dunnock. Technically not a sparrow at all but related to more exotic species, the Dunnock scuttles about in your borders and hedges and never interferes with anyone. But this shy little bird has a surprising and rather scandalous sex life, but here at JAB Central we are too embarrassed to tell you what they get up to - we'll leave it up to you to do a bit of googling if you are interested in finding out more! So the next time you see a Dunnock in your garden do admire his attractive grey and brown speckled plumage – the girls obviously love him!
What do Dunnocks eat?
Dunnocks are not that fussy about what they eat and their slender pointed beaks are ideal for picking up small seeds, insects and spiders. They are like natures hoovers, clearing up the bits that other birds leave beneath your feeders.
