Attracting Greenfinches
The Greenfinch is a robust garden bird with a beak that's designed to do what Greenfinches do best – eat seeds! Although his bill is heavy and conical in shape, he can still use it with delicacy when choosing seeds from your feeders or tables. In the wild Greenfinches tend to eat seeds from woodland trees and hedgerow plants, many of which are less abundant now, but in your garden he will find all he needs in the shape of Sunflower Hearts, Black Sunflowers, Peanuts and other seeds from our mixes. Furthermore he will hang around once he has found a good food source - Greenfinches are quite sedentary and tend to stay close to home.
As Greenfinches are not really green at all, here at JAB we are inclined to think they should be called Yellow Finches. Or Lime Finches maybe…. Much more appropriate!
What do Greenfinches eat?
Like all finches they are partial to a wide variety of seeds, the more nutritious the better. They also love Peanuts and are agile enough to use feeders as well as bird tables.
