Attracting Pheasants

Pheasants aren’t really birds you attract to your garden – they just bumble in (if you are in a country or open area) whether you want them or not!  Stunning variable plumage, heavyweights and rather regal in appearance, they are of course not native, but rather like it here.  Sadly though, anyone who has had an encounter with a Pheasant knows that it is a bird of very little brain – the Winnie-the-Pooh of the bird world. The handsome male and his dowdy wife may turn up in any sort of garden with open spaces nearby, happily feeding from a low table or on the ground where seeds and peanut pieces may have fallen from feeders.

What do Pheasants Eat?

Pheasants feed in the wild on a variety of large seeds, so will be delighted to find Wheat, Maize, Oats and Sunflower Hearts in seed mixes. They will also eat kitchen scraps and pieces of Peanut. In fact they will eat pretty much anything you put in front of them!   If you love these flamboyant show-offs feed a seed mixture with plenty of grains and larger seeds.
