Attracting Wood Pigeons
Twenty years ago the Wood Pigeon was a bird you could have certainly seen if you lived in the country, but in a town it would have been a rare sight. Now this lumbering heavyweight is amongst the five or six most common birds seen in our gardens, in part due to its ability to breed several times every year, from as early as March til late into summer, plus the fact that it has adapted to living happily in our gardens and parks! Wood Pigeons are loved by some and loathed by other garden bird watchers but on closer inspection they are really rather beautiful, with glossy green and pink feathers on their necks and shades of grey and pink throughout their plumage. They make quite a cute noise too!
What do Wood Pigeons Eat?
Wood Pigeons eat a variety of foods but are largely grain feeders in the wild . If you like these birds, feed a Ground Mix that includes wheat or other large grains, although they are partial to pretty much anything! If you would rather avoid them - and they can have a habit of scaring off smaller species on account of their large size - only use hanging feeders.
